Nothing Else MAtters seems to have more heartfelt and meaningful lyrics. So I choose it.

You're jokin' right? 'cmon. FTB pwns NEM on all fronts.

No, i'm not joking. I said why I prefer it. Doesn't mean I don't like Fade To Black though.

ok. we'll agree to disagree.

OK I am not a hard rock fan. I am more of a jam band fan, but I used to LOVE heavier stuff. FADE is soooooo much better then that new pvssy crap they play. I stopped listening after Justice..

By the way, I don't think that One is their best song ever. I don't even think it is the best song on the album. Blackened, Harvester, Frayed Ends of Sanity.... So many to choose from.

On a side note. I remember the day I heard "Hero of the Day" and I almost pissed myself with laughter.

Who voted for Nothing Else Matters, cuz I'm going to punch you in the head, and maybe knock some common sense into you

I did, only because I have not heard Fade to Black.

/me braces for *punch*

I'll accept that...ignorance can be used as an excuse sometimes

oh you better get your hands on it, stat. Grab One and Sanitarium while you're at it.

Anybody know if Dave wrote the lyrics for fade to black? Can't remember off the top of my head.

Edit - the more I think about it, it does sound more like James........

heh if he's only heard NEM, I don't think the stuff you added is his flavor... we gotta start them off slow. 🙂 I became a MetallicA fan from TBA then worked my way backwards.

this is interesting... I'm looking at the sleeve for the Ride album... Mustaine helped write Ride The Lightning (the song), but Hammett has writing credit for Fade to Black. For lyrics themselves, it's usually just James.

He wrote all of it? Or did Lars and James also write?

no I just meant Hammett instead of Mustaine and vice versa for those 2 songs. James and Lars have credit for every song also.

Are these the name of albulm, songs, or both? I have heard of One and know it is a song, I have also listened to Unforgiven and Unforgiven II and enjoy them both. I'm not much for hardcore metal.

they are all song names... from varying albums. Neither Sanitarium nor Fade to Black are "hardcore metal" or what you would think as thrash metal. They are songs that even my wife enjoys because they are well composed. And when she rides in my car, she has little choice. 😉 "Master of Puppets" and "Ride The Lightning" albums, respectively.

I will have to check these out. Are there other songs that are not too much like "thrash metal" on these albums? I would hate to purchase an entire album for one or two songs.

you should at least purchase the black album (self-titled from '91)... they are 50-75% songs to your taste. Their older albums are heavier with 2 or 3 more melodic songs like the above mentioned on each of them. For those, see if you can get them from a pay-per-download service somewhere... I don't know what you use. But they are great songs.

I voted for Nothing Else Matters only because I can play most of it... No, I'm kidding. Fade to Black is the greatest song ever written. Didn't even have to think twice.
