I was trying to figure out why my wheel would not button click for me (it ended up that the braket holding it was a bit loose), when I noticed this chunk of metal bolted to the top chell of hte mosue, directly over where the mouse ball WOULD have been on the old style mouses. My only theory on this is that they want to give the same weight feel to the mouse for peeps upgrading from the old Mouseman Wheel (as I am doing myself... I have a good wife).

I took it out... it feels much better... lighter and more responsive...

ahh so thats it, thats why I think that the Mouseman wheel optical glows with quality and the Intellieye Explorer glows with cheap plastic and overall cheapness.

your probably correct about the mouse being weighted. Personally i like the weight, the microsoft (original) optical didn't and felt really cheap and unnerving. Then again that mouse was built badly.. ah well babble babble

I love my new Logitech wheel/optical mouse. It's real sweet, and  I love the blue LED too, like, that's just so nice, and it matches the one in my comp nicely too. I hope the blue LED scene doesn't blow up, cause that would suck.
