I recently bought some nice toslink cables from monoprice. They are worth every penny. Inexpensive, heavy duty connectors and sleeved in a metal mesh. Nice. Well, I just got a new Cherry mechanical keyboard. My previous one was having issues. Also, one of my cats had chewed through the keyboard cable. Someone on Geekhack hooked me up with a bigger diameter cable that I soldered into the board to work as a makeshift. However, I thought the metal mesh sleeving of the toslink cable would be great as a deterrence to the cat's chewing of the cable. Just making the diameter a little bigger would help as would the metal. For the life of me I cannot find this particular sleeving online. I figure I'd only need 3-4 feet of the stuff. I have plenty of heat shrink. Anyone know where I can acquire something of this nature?

Just a little update. I took apart the new keyboard and popped the cable off the board. Then I realized that I was not going to be able to get the sleeving on the cable. There is a rubber mount molded to the cable near the connector. I was bummed. I decided to use some cable clamps and stick them to the underside of my desk. I then only had a small length that drooped a bit. I smeared some habanero sauce to that section. I am hoping for the best. :p

do u know how sleeve cables?

Typically u try to get the sleeve over the cable... most likely get the one with a diameter in which u can slide the USB head inside.
Then u use a shrink wrap to compress the ends of the sleeve to the cable.

This holds the sleeve in place even if its bigger then what ur sleeving.

I'm curious. Does the metal sleeving help in that the cats still nom on it but it resists, or they avoid it?
