Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is released on PC today, digitally and in physical disc format. Or, as it turns out, just the former. A Twitter user who got their physical copy of Hideo Kojima's latest action-stealth epic has posted a number of screenshots that suggest the only file on the disc is a Steam installer. We live in a very stupid era. That's just under 9MB of data, if you're wondering. It's the sort of thing that makes a bit of a mockery of the fact that a lot of industry chart websites still don't include digital sales in their final tally. That means that people will have some serious downloading to do – around 28GB - before they want to play MGS5, even if they grab a boxed copy. Thankfully, it sounds like the game is worth the wait. - See more at: http://www.gamewatcher.com/news/201...staller-and-nothing-else#sthash.J37Vbqxw.dpuf

i would return it back to store

After 3 hours finally the game started. I suppose you have to devote your life to playing "games" to enjoy this. This is more like a movie. 3 hours in and I had all of 2 minutes of control over my character.

Anyway the playable part is fun and the game runs well. But really the amount of cinematics means you have to be a child or unemployed or full time game reviewer to get any actual play time in. It's gone over the top with the antithesis of "just dive in and play."

after the initial part the game is very action/gameplay focused, a lot more than any other MGS game, I'm actually disappointed with how rare the cinematics are

Its freaken a 30GB download.

Many places around the world don't even have good broadband, topping out at less than 1MB/s. That would be bloody annoying, I would demand money back.

I was really looking forward to this. Looks like it's got the same Securom Jr. DRM like Dragon Age: Inquisition. I'll visit a peasant to play this on xbox or PS4 :|

I only have an xbox360 in the house...

Get the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the xbox360, its like $20 and easily available.

A lot of people recommend playing MGS3 since it expands on the background of the main character, but you could just read up on Peace walker though, you should also play MGS5:Ground Zeros which is the prologue, it has a fairly good summary of what happens in Peacewalker as well.

Does the packaging say anything about requirements of downloading the actual game? If not it would seem to be a mis-representation of buying a game and not getting it in the box.

Not sure what all the fuss is, I downloaded it on FiOS in about 30 minutes...

Yea guys, I live next door to Konami and just grabbed it off their wireless in like 5 minutes. I don't know what the rest of you are complaining about.

First time playing a Metal Gear Solid title, eh? MGS 1 pretty much started the trend of developers putting in hours of cutscenes to give games a more "cinematic" feel. It's what these games have always been.

That is indeed lame. 28GB download upon release just like Master Chief Collection, nothing new but my how lazy devs get relying on CDN rather than packaging everything right.

Once you clear the prologue content in the game you barely have any cinematics. Some people have expressed disappointment that there aren't more. Dunno.

To be fair, the Metal Gear Solid series is a collection of great games ruined by an increasingly bat**** crazy, stupid, utterly absurd plot, filled with idiotic technobabble and hallucinogenic fever dream nonsense that substitutes the rantings of a lunatic mind for an actual story. Floating psychics, vampire Jesus, fat guys on roller blades, and a transplanted arm that doubles as a mind-control device? THAT'S SOLID STUFF. Anyone lamenting the lack of cinematics in an MGS game is someone who doesn't like playing video games, they just want some background noise while they take bong rips from a re-purposed aquarium and have "deep thoughts" about how maybe they're just a figment of the game's imagination.

Still looking forward to this; the early reviews make it sound like it's a lot of fun. I didn't really like MGS4, but I'm giving this one the benefit of the doubt.

Or it's people who find something interesting about the story in the games. I for one like many of the themes in the MGS games.

Meh, 30GB isn't bad. SC has been that high for a while and will be much larger by full release. Time to demand better internet if it's an issue.

Demand from who? When you have a data cap the two ISPs you get to pick from locally in the US won't care. I think the "issue" here is that you're buying the physical box edition of the game and it's the first one that doesn't have a disk to actually install the game from.

Good for you. Now imagine if you didn't have FIOS.

Or get close to your cap all the time and know that an extra 30GB would put you over and you can't afford to risk it. I'm not on a cap but I can only imagine how tough it can be for people.
