I have metal door frams in my house and I want to strip the existing paint and repaint them. What is the best way in doing this?

Rough up the existing finish with sandpaper and paint over it.

That is an interesting way to do it.

You could do that, it would be easier. If you do, make sure to wear a mask as your sanding a metal surface.
Else just go to home depot or whatever and look in the paint department, they'll have a bunch of stuff that will work.
I can recommend DIF specifically if you have any wallpaper mess or anything on the surfaces, it takes everything off walls.

Chemically strip the frames, prime and paint.

With what chemical?

xylene should do it, commonly sold as goof off

acetone should work too you can buy it buy the gallon at a hardware store.

or if the paint is being really stubern try some snap jet spray carburator cleaner. that stuffs a micture of touline, xylene, and acetone. don't get it on anything you value thats made of plastic.

munruss I was a painting contractor for 15 years and if you want to strip them use Jasco Epoxy and Paint stripper it will make easy work of removing the paint, but be VERY careful it will eat your skin off. be sure to use safty gogles and buy a nice 1and a half inch putty knife to scrape with

Its a jell so buy a few cheap brushes to put it on with and put a nice thick coat and in a few minutes it will start to bubble upl, dont scrape to early let the jasco do the work.

Also if the paint is in good shap just sand it and paint over it.

commonly sold as goof off

Goof off is not a stripper, it is used to remove spots of paint.

munruss do not use solvents to remove paint like OrganizedChaos is saying, as with any job there is always the right tool.
