Metal Block where Stepping is written on-is it important?

as the topic says, is that important or is that just to distribute heat onto there and then onto the heatsink. My metal block is scratched somehow, is that why my computer won't post? Please advise. Thank you.

By 'metal block' I take it you mean the core? Cracking the core is detrimental, but I don't think a scratch should do much.

Tht's the CPU core. Damage it & ur CPU is DEAD. When u said "scratched"...how deep? Look closedly, a cracked core can also look like a "scratch" under the naked eye.
