Is everyone really that jealous that they care so much about what someone claims they earn?

Garage sales are a nightmare. You have to take the entire weekend off. Be at as many as you can at like 7 am or you miss anything worth value. It's a madhouse. And I can't imagine how many hundreds of things he'd have to buy just to make a few bucks. Then pack them all up takes forever. Deal with all the emails, paypal stuff, sorting it all out etc. He'd have to find small enough things to ship too.

Ive thought about it but it's just way way to much effort and pain for what you'd get out of it. It's really a full time job to make anything decent. I dont think this guy is honest about how much he makes. Probably just sells that much but not actually make that in profits.

To really smoke him out, ask a few casual questions about boxes. You can tell a true ebayer by whether or not his eyes light up when he sees an empty box somewhere, ready to be thrown out.

Mind you, it IS possible to make $5000 net on ebay part time. But . . .

full time job,
I was pulling ~2K profit on dell boxes and it took up a lot of my time.

I was offered a job from AMEX Analysts when I graduated, it was going to run about 80-100 hours a week. Basically you pull 40-50 doing your normal workload, then do 40-50 a week worth of training, so after a year or two you're able to do more tasks and accounts. Low paying and long hours for a few years, then you start making a LOT of money (if you're good) working the basic 40-60 hours a week.

I was doing eBay part-time while I was in school and earned $5k in profits some months. I think that I could earn 6 figures doing it full-time, but it would be a boring job and not very fulfilling.

So he's making $60K a year part time. Ask him again why is he still working the 100 hour weeks with you.

If you work 100 hours a week and are still not making enough that you don't have to scrounge garage sales for stuff to sell on ebay, your job must suck completely.

Hard to believe it... I tried it (since I have summers off), but there was no way I could net that much in a month. Perhaps it depends on the quality of the garage sales or something. I do know that some neighborhoods are excellent for deals, but others are horrible. In my experience, the more upper class the neighborhood, the less likely there are to be deals.

However, I've seen where you could make a fortune on clothing, especially kids clothes. I just didn't want to deal with that.

5K sale/revenue part time? possible....5K net profit part time while working 100 hrs per week? Yeah right and here is why:

Let do some math, shall we? <let say this guy is working 7 days a week and sleep about 5 hrs a day>

168 hrs per week - 100 hrs at work = 68 hrs
68 hrs - (7days*5hrs of sleep/day) = 33 hrs
33hrs/7days = 4.71 hrs a day to do everything else in his life, including his ebay business (buy, listing, take picture, description, shipping, etc.), then showering, eating, commuting to work, and everything else.

Edit: I hope the OP and his friend are getting pay enough. They are working 2.5 times the normal work hours and if they don't get pay 2.5 times the average/median salary <45K/year IIRC>, then they are getting screw.
