I went to install my D-Link DFE-530 TX PCI from the downloaded file for this nic. The os couldn't find choosusr.dll=NET7.CAB.

I don't know why that happened since a search later revealed it's presence.
After booting I went to Device Manager and removed the entry under ? the big question mark and rebooted. I tried to install again and it seemed to take.
As you can see, it's working for me however each time I boot I get these annoying messages in DOS mode.
I'll just paraphrase:
Files for a device not present but listed in System.ini etc.
vnetsup.vxd
vredir.vxd
dfs.vxd

and then once Win98 starts a pop-up displays:
Unable to load the dynamic link library msnp32.dll

Help.

Go to Network under Control Panel, and then remove all of your network protocols (ie TCP/IP, etc). Reboot, then reinstall all the protocols that you removed. Make sure that you have the Win98 CDROM or the CAB files handy.
