tried running ipconfig to see what my IP address was, but for some reason the result this time was different from when i've run it before. maybe it's supposed to do this, and what i usually get is an "aberration", but when i ran it, it popped up a dos console, some numbers appeared, then the console and numbers disappeared. all in the blink of an eye, before i could even read any of the numbers. what good is that? the last several times i've run it, i've gotten a window that popped up and displayed the results, and stayed there. any idea how to bring that back?
 
You probably ran winipcfg before.

To see the results of ipconfig, you need to run "cmd" and then type ipconfig at the c: prompt.
 
The reason your IP changed is because you apparently have a dynamic IP, not a static which never changes. It's normal for it to change and if you're on dial-up it will change everytime you connect to your ISP. If you are on a cable modem it won't change as often but it will periodically.
 
i just wanted to find out what it was... i was looking out of curiosity. i know IPs change, thats part of why i was curious (ive got cable). i had run it before on the school LAN, when i had a static IP, but it had been winipcfg. thx for the obvious pointers. 🙂
