I keep getting pop up on MSN Messenger about come visit my porn site from a Kate and a couple others.I have no idea how this come about.Sometimes it even connects me to other people that get the spam and their like WTF!.Anyone else out there get this and do you know of a fix?.Its really pissing me off and I get it a few times a day.I have XP firewall enabled and have a Linksys BEFSR41 but I don't know how to configure it,if it would even help. This is what is says below.

Kate says:

Hey there!

My name is Kate. I'm an horny 18 years old teen girl from Florida ... I just finished making my FREE porn site and would like to invite you to it

The address is: -------------------------

Hope you like it

Kate

From the AnandTech FAQ:

To make it so others cannot send these messages to you, disable the Messenger service.

1. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

2. Double click the Messenger Service,

3. Change it from 'Automatic' to 'Disabled' and click the Stop button.

Thanks,I forgot to mention that I had messenger disabled and didn't work.By the way I have done a fresh XP Pro install.I disabled Messenger again.Hopefully it will work this time.

Can I get Kate's phone number please? 😉 j/k

I guess this is from MSN messenger that is built into XP? Did the pop-up just start happenening all of a sudden? With the reinstall and disable, does anything pop up anymore?

What worked for me in disabling Messenger:

Renamed Messenger folder (MessengerNot).

Ran Norton WinDoctor. Windoctor reported about a dozen 'problems' - which were all links to Messenger.

Told WinDoctor to 'Fix All'. All links cleared. No system problems. No more Messenger-delivered spam.

Hope this helps!

dunkster,I'll have to give that a try.I did have an mscoree file missing along with 45-49 windows problems after running windoctor.I did replace the file, but I didn't rename the folder yet so I'll try that.

I did as you said and it didn't work. This is going to be tough to get rid off.It won't let me rename the messenger folder.Says check if CD is write protected which sounds like a screw up.

WTH, man. Just configure your Linksys router to block ports 135, 137-139 and 445.

Can't spam ya if they can't get to ya.

I'm green when it comes to using my Linksys.I'll try blocking those ports.Do you mean 137-139 as in 137,138 and 139?.I had no idea what ports to block. How you knew is beyond me..LOL.Sid59,I already disable messenger in services but didn't help.

If you truly disabled Messenger Service as you said (twice), then you are not getting netsend spam.

You are likely getting automated spam thru either MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger. I've gotten this same spam on one of my IM accounts.

Open the client, click Tools->Options->Privacy, highlight 'All others' and click the Block button. This will only allow instant messages to be received from people you have in your Allow list.
