Messenger Service pop-ups?

I just got back from school for the semester and hooked up my computer back to my router and i've started to get these "messenger service" ads that pop up. They look almost like standards windows windows(you know, press "ok" type things). My other computer used to get them now I'm getting them. What the heck are they? Any ideas how to stop them?

Two ways to stop this type of "spam"

*Stop the Messenger service on your machine
*Install a firewall (hardware or software) and have it block the Messenger ports.

make sure u have deny inbound netbios on your router and ake sure the lan ip isnt in the dmz

And try searching, there have been atleast a dozen threads on this in the last 2 months.
