Messenger Pop-Ups in Win2k

Does anyone know how to get rid of these stupid messnger pop-ups in Windows 2000? Just formatted and upgraded to 2000 yesterday and these messenger pop-ups are driving me insane! They even pop-up while im in the middle of a game! I never experienced any messenger pop-ups like this in 98SE and I was just wondering if there is a way to uninstall the messenger, or if not, maybe disable it?

Control Panel-> admin tools -> services -> messenger - > disabled

Go to administrative tools, then to services, double click on Messenger, and change startup type to disabled (these are the XP directions, I don't know if it is any different for 2k)

uncheck Messenger

Thanks, got it disabled. What does using a burned version of the OS have to do with the messenger?

nothing, its a "new" form of spam, you just have to kill your messenger service and it shall never popup again.
