Messenger and Outlook Express

Hullo folks,

I have reinstalled my Windows XP recently and since then, when I open my Outlook Express (to check my secondary emails mails), MSN Messenger is not automatically starting (I like it to check my Hotmail mails). The option "Automatically log on Messenger" is checked and I have installed the MSN Plugin for Messenger.
I don't know how to make MSN Messenger start when I open Outlook Express. I don't use Messenger as my main chat program (I stick with ICQ). I want Messenger to start, check my mails and stop when I exit Outlook Express.

Thank you!

I am running:
Windows XP Pro
Messenger 4.7
OE 6

Sounds weird. I'm assuming you installed SP1 before using OE for the first time, correct? Have you logged on Messenger yet? Also, check Tools->Options->Preferences and make sure "Allow this program to run in background" is checked.

I believe install of SP1 unchecks Run when Windows starts for v4.7 by default (some people got a little pissy when XP was first released, and Messenger immediately loaded...so MS changed that behavior with SP1). If "Allow..." is also unchecked, this could be the cause of the issue you're seeing.

There's one other possibility, but I'd like answers to these questions before I advise further...

Hullo,

Thank you for you answer. I have finally solved my problem. I don't want to use the Contacts of OE (viruses isue, etc), so I disabled it and removed it from being displayed in the "Inbox" window. I have to make it display (even if I don't use it). Now Messenger runs when I load Outlook Express.

Bye
