Messed-up USB Key

I have a bit of a problem with my USB Key. While reformatting Windows, my key was accidentally formatted by the Windows installer when I pressed format on the wrong selection. Now, Windows recognized the drive, but it says that its needs to be formatted. However, when I click the format button in Windows, it says that it can't be formatted. Can I still salvage the thumb drive or is it pretty much gone?

You can try running a ScanDisk on the flash drive to see if that fixes it.

Another option is to try to remove the partition on it and create a new one. Go to the Disk Manager (right click My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management). Select the partition in the USB Flash Drive and delete it. Then create a new partition and format it.

If it gives you the option, format it as a FAT partition, otherwise you won't be able to use it in WinMe or Win98 systems.

Hope this helps...
