Heres the story in a few lines:

I have 2 computers in my room. My main rig and a spare i use for ftp and cs server sometimes. Now somehow my spare rig got viruses up the wazoo. This was detected by Norton on my main rig. Well i knew i'd have to reformat and all that thats no problem and also i thought I would close port 20 and 21 and that other thing I have to do to make it work as a server. So stupid me goes into the router setup screen and disables EVERYTHING on the page that allows the pc to work as a server. Now I restarted and my router wont work. I believe I disabled 'Using DHCP server'! I believe this was BAD! Now I cant get into the router setup.

Calling all folks with 3COM 5C510's or any other knowledge. I know im missing terms and stuff but thats because I can't remember them.

How can I reenable this setting even though I cant get into the router setup? thank you in advance!

There should be a way to perform a "hard reset" of your router. This returns it to its original factory settings. Check your manual.

Well in XP Pro you can go to start/control panel/performance&maintenance/admin tools. Then from in there go to computer management/services and applications/services then scroll down till you see DHCP client and double click it. You can start and stop it from in there automatic is default settings.

Its prob the same in Win2000. Have you tried resting the router or asigning a single PC and static IP to get into the router(might work)?

Ok im in Computer Management, DHCP Client was already on automatic. Only Routing and Remote Access was disabled, so I turned that to automatic to no avail. Anything else I can try? My manual mentions nothing of a hard reset :(

Also, im running win2k. I need some more help on the assigning a static IP to myself. If I can get back into the router options I can reenable that thing! thanks guys I'll be back later

You have to set an IP manually so you can connect to your router.... do you have the internal IP of the router? as long as you didn't disable admin of the router over the internal ethernet port...

Just give your main rig and IP close to you router's then you can http to it... and reset the router to default factory...

My first advice is to get the sis out of there. Throw arms in air start rolling eyes start quivering all over and then flop on floor when she runs to get help lock door.

Ok I changed my IP to 192.168.2.5 and then I was able to get into the router setup menu. Then I promptly changed DHCP Server to Enabled, and restarted my computer and the router. After the restart I change my IP back to auto, and it still doesnt work. I know the cause of the problem, I fix the problem, yet it refuses to work !

Ok heres something new I did. I set the router up again and I did the ipconfig command at the dos prompt, my IP was 192.168.2.95, this is router specified, which means I should be able to get into the router setup at least, yet I cannot. I'm beginning to think it just stopped working. I don't know what else to do but buy a new one, this thing is a few months old from tigerdirect.
