Hey everyone,

My sister dropped her laptop a while ago and now the bottom 1/3rd of the screen is messed up. It displays white with a few black horizontal lines. I took a picture of it so you know what I'm talking about:

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way I could possibly repair this myself? I'm not entirely comfortable messing around with a laptop, but I don't really want to pay a lot of money to get it repaired if possible. I have looked around the net a bit, and a few will do repairs for around $200...if anyone knows of any places that are cheaper, and reliable, it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

See if you can get another like it on E-Bay and cannibalize.

Ebay is your best bet. You could try to ensure that the ribbon cables are seated, but I think the LCD is bad.

it looks like you'll have to get it replaced and if you took it or sent it somewhere to get fixed they'd probably replace it also with a new or refurbished LCD. like these guys said you can try searching on eBay for the part. i've seen a lot of laptop spare parts being sold on there but if you're not comfortable trying to fix the laptop yourself then maybe you should try those other pc repair places.

by the way, welcome to the anandtech forums! :)
