Hi all could do with some help. as you can see iam running 2 HD2900XT cards. i have had them running fine and then about 2 weeks ago my screen started going on and of while playing games, i upgraded to the latest drivers and since then they havn't run at all. a couple of questions.

1) should i be able to boot from either card if i take one out. when i clear the cmos and then try using just one card (the slave) to boot it won't but when i put the primary back into the PCIE1 it will.

2) when i have them both in they are reconised in both catalyst centre and hardware monitor. but when i install the drivers (7.12) i do not get the normal blank screen while they are loading when i play a game in single it works but when in crossfire the whole PC just locks up and i have to press the restart button. i have tried going back to older drivers but its the same. Sorry the question, are there any setting in windows that my son could have messed up so that the drivers won't load properly.

i have tried clean install by using Driver Net but nothing i do is helping.

Thanks

That PSU seems beefy enough, but only has 17A on each 12V+ rail. I wonder if that is enough for 2 2900XT's. Even though it was working before, it may be pushing the PSU too hard, and is now having adverse affects on it.
Anybody chime in?

Thanks for getting back. i can understand what you are saying but when i try to boot with the slave put in as primary and on its own it still won't boot. but is reconised when in with the primary. if it wasn't i would think it was broke

1) should i be able to boot from either card if i take one out.

If you replace the "Master" card with the "Slave" card, it should boot. Independantly, they are just regular 2900XT cards.

Reset your CMOS to default settings. Do not o/c anything "for now".

Try one card at a time. First in the primary slot, then in the secondary slot.

This is a good place to start.

thanks keysplayr2003, but i have tried all that. the slave will not boot in any form on its own. that master no probs booting but even when i try to install the drivers for just the master they will not install properly. thats why i was woudering if it could be a windows setting that is blocking them being installed. my son who knows even less than i do likes to mess about. and yes i have tried a full pc re-pair and even clean install. thanks

Hi, i have come to the conclusion that the card is messed up. I have looked to buy a new HIS card but can not find one anywhere. Do i need to buy a HIS or could i buy any brand with same specks and then use it in crossfire with my working HIS. thanks for your previous help folks.
