Messed up friends laptop!!

My friends laptop was dual booting with 2 Windows XP options. One of them didnt work and was some kind of error. I was trying to delete it from startup options but I deleted the regular boot and now I cant get into the laptop windows at all including safe mode.

I am in DOS mode now from the win XP CD and I saved a BOOT notepad file on the dektop just in case before i did it. Is there anywhere I can paste the notepad to bring the boot back?

Have you tried fixmbr?

Look at BOOT.INI in the root directory. Edit the incorrect entry to make it correct.

Hi, I'm not sure about your rig, but XP loaded on several desktops here and setup dual boot even tho Win 98 was not present. I edited BOOT.INI to correct that, but ended up deleting it entirely. Works correctly now and doesn't offer to boot either. Best to rename it first to see if it works. Good Luck, Jim
