My roomate recently got into an accident. His car rear ended a car who had rear ended someone else. He got ticketed. (go figure)

Anyways, he took it in to a shop to get it fixed and "supposedly" fixing it would cost 5-6k. He didnt want to spend anywhere close to this amount and so he's debating whether or not to give/sell this car to the autoshop. Is there something that he can do with his car that is more "efficient" or "profitable" such as donating to charity for tax write off, selling to scrap yard, etc? Yes he's poor - that's why.

Thanks all

Uhh... if he cant keep a safe distance and control his vehicle he will get a ticket. Seems logical.

A charity won't take a non-working car, so that's out.

He was at a safe distance. But a car stopping dead in its tracks because it hit another car stops MUCH faster than a car slamming on its brakes. Plus, my point was that he got in an accident AND a ticket - major suckage. HELPFUL comments and advice welcome.

Thanks

I would not sell the car to the autoshop. I'm sensing a little conflict of interest there. Now, if he gets three quotes and they are all $5K+ and that's more than he wants to spend, it would be a little more reasonable. Even then he would probably stand to make more by selling it through the paper than to an autoshop.
