Message refused - SpamAssassin score too high

Hello All,

I tried to send a message to a friend at his work and I keep getting it kicked back to me undeliverable. What is SpamAssassin and how do I correct this?

I currently am running AVG antivirus, Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, and CCleaner which I scan frequently. D-Link DI-624 router for firewall - no firewall software except for std. WinXP one

Here is the error:
This Message was undeliverable due to the following reason:
Your message was not delivered because the destination computer refused to accept it (the error message is reproduced below). This type of error is usually due to a mis-configured account or mail delivery system on the destination computer; however, it could be caused by your message since some mail systems refuse messages with invalid header information, or if they are too large.

Your message was rejected for the following reason:

Message refused - SpamAssassin score too high. Score: 5.8 Threshold: 5.2

Your message read like it was SPAM. The scoring system that Spam Assassin uses is, no doubt, proprietary, but I'd look at things like:

Lots of embedded URL links.
Unusual punctuation.
Words or wording that would be used in an advertisement.

It's also possible that the recipient's mail system has its SPAM threshold set too low. Whoever handles their mail system would have to change that. It's also possible that Spam Assassin includes YOUR ISP in its rating. If you are mailing from a frequently-SPAMMing email server, that could increase your SPAM score.

I'm sure that their mail system also has a "whitelist" that you could be put on, to allow your emails to pass through no matter what their SPAM score.

Use a different email provider (eg. Gmail) to email your friend to see what happens.
