I have a Pentium 2 266 and I was wondering how far I can overclock it (if I can at all) and how I would do this. I know what your going to say, "Bloody newbies, don't know what they're talking about.." Well its true, when it comes to overclocking that is.

Since the Pentiums are multiplier locked, if you want to keep your cpu then you need to set the front side bus to 100MHz. If your board won't do 100MHz on the FSB then you'll either need to get a new board or the cheaper solution is to get a celeron and a slotcket adaptor. You can get a 500-600MHz celeron and a slotcket for about $80 (depending on where you buy them).

You will NOT get a P2-266 on to the 100MHz FSB.

The best you can probably hope for is 4 x 75 = 300MHz. Klamath CPUs won't get much further than 350MHz, so you might even be able to try the 83MHz FSB as well.

Hey there Shifty..No problem..everyone starts out somewhere!! never hesitate to ask..

The PII's were not great overclockers at all, but ya can get something out of them...

AND GUESS WHAT...THEY ARE NOT MULTIPLIER LOCKED... anyone who says they are locked doesn't have one!!

Intel didn't start locking processors until the PII 300's, and even some of them were still unlocked, (two different cores, old core unlocked, new cores locked)....

So ALL Pentium II's under 300 ARE UNLOCKED..

I gave my mother an old PII 266 which was given to me, and it has been running @300 for quite awhile now.. change the multiplier to 4.5 @66mhz, mine wouldn't stay stable @ 75mhz..but try it anyway.. maybe yours will do it... good luck
