Meshuggah is awesome

I just thought I'd express this once again. Meshuggah is indeed awesome. I just saw them tonight at the Metro in Chicago and they blew me away. This is my 4th time seeing them but they sounded 2x better this time having performed a sound check before playing. I was on the railing of the balcony and those of you that have been to the Metro know just how close that is. I was right on top of them!

Here's the songs I remember that they played :

Stengah
Closed Eye Visuals
New Millennium Cyanide Christ
Several other songs off 'Nothing' I can't recall

The only song they didn't play that I wish they had was Future Breed Machine. It was a great time and I will suffer hearing loss as a result of it 🙂

Just thought I'd share with you guys so if you've wondered about them before. you know they're worth checking out.

I saw them when the opened for Tool at Michigan State (my second Tool concert, the first being in Moline with Tomahawk). I will have to say that they were better than Tomahawk, but I didn't really "hear" them. Maybe I should pick up an album and see what the fuss is about. Any recommendations?

Album-wise? Their new album 'Nothing' is pretty solid. Other good albums are 'Destroy, Erase, Improve' and "Chaosphere'. All of the songs I listed above not on Nothing are worth checking out too 🙂

Sorry I was so late to reply, I was a little tired when posting that 😉

I've heard a lot about them, and I think I've heard a couple of songs, but I think I have a problem with their singer.

If I'm remembering correctly.

Now, if you want to talk about Iced Earth.. I'm here. 😉

What's not to like? He's crazy!

He does a whole-body headbanging thing that just looks awesome. He's really cool on stage, imo 🙂

I don't really care for the way many metal bands' singers sing. There are very few metal singers that actually have range with their voice. Ya know what I mean?

Now, don't get me wrong... I'm a metalhead to the bone. But for some reason it ruins the music for me, even though it may be good, when all I hear is a dude with the worst constipation you can imagine. 😛

Swedish Melodic Death Metal (just trust me and give them a listen)

They're going on a headlining tour this summer, can't wait.

Again, their singer. 🙁 Why can't singers actually sing? I realize they're screaming, but you can scream-sing.

I saw In Flames when they headlined for Iced Earth last summer. It was an awesome show all around. 🙂

I agree w/ you about the vocals. I don't think his singing is too ... how to say it... different from 'mainstream' metal, but their guitars are. The riffs they throw out are what get me. The timing is so unbelievably weird that I just have to try and pluck through it.
