Well I now know what I'll be getting myself for x-mas. A new transmission. My Trans Am decided to blow the tranny on my way to work. I made it about 3 miles in 1st gear. This sucks. :(

See if you can find one in a junkyard. There are lots of wrecked Trans-Ams/Camaros out there.

Well I knew it was on it's way out, so I've already got a shop in mind. I'm gonna have it rebuilt with corvette servos and all that jazz. I was just hoping to make it till after x-mas.

Auto right? The 4L60e is a very common transmission, found in Cameros, Caprices, Corvettes, Jaguars, trucks...

If you're looking to save some cash, there'll be one in any junkyard that has GM vehicles.

91. Though I guess now I could do the auto to manual swap.

the 460LE is a 4th gen transmission, Mine is a 3rd gen so t uses the 700r4, though I'm thinking of going with a t-56 swap.

Doing the Auto to manual swap is a PITA from what I hear.
You should be able to just rebuild yours, or have it rebuilt.
If you have the time you can buy a kit and do it yourself.

You'll need a new computer. That might be costly and a PITA.

I feel your pain. I just lost my transmission in my 97 Ford Taurus two weeks ago. For $1650 out the door I got a full rebuild with a 2 year unlimited milage warranty.

700R4? Those are even cheaper! A fully built up one from B&M is only about $1600, and those are ready to race.

Pro-Built is usually favored by most third generation fans for a strong aftermarket tranny.

Pro-Built is the trans I'm going to put in my car (1988 Trans Am) when mine finally gives up. Trouble is, my 700r4 just won't die :Q. I've been not-so-nice to it in the last 5 years, and it still runs perfect, despite having 134k miles on it and my heavy foot to contend with. :D

OP, sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm sure you know this already, but you may be able to hit up 3rdgen.org and pick up a working stock trans off there for cheap, if you don't have the $$ for a built up one just right now. And the 700r4 is a fairly common trans, so junkyards should have plenty, although the JYs are kind of a crapshoot when it comes to knowing what you're getting.
