Merry Christmas - house got burgled.

Just got home from Christmas shopping and the house has been turned over. Collectively we lost 4 laptops, some iPod Touches, XBox Kinect, a hair straightener (apparently valuable), jewelery, a fresh carton of cigarettes, couple of cell phones, some expensive cuff-links, a whole bunch of Christmas presents and who knows what else.

Motherfuckers.

That sucks 🙁

Hope the guys that did this fall off a cliff.

are you insured?

I just moved here recently and have "been meaning" to get my insurance changed over. Joke's on me.
How long ago was it?
In the States, some of our policies have a 30 day grace period or something like that.
Do look into it if you haven't already.

Were they bought with credit cards. Some have a program to file a claim.

I have been robbed several times. They were my vehicles though.

-For the guys that stole my truck and stripped it, I wished they would die a comical death. Picturing them dying in a cartoon way helps a lot.
-For the guy that broke into another vehicle years later and only stole my sweater, I hope he finds warmth with his own means. He/she left other valuables that were much more appealing for cash. Stereo, mp3 player, CD's, etc.

Just got off phone with bro - hyper shitty situation. What kind of scum bag breaks in and wrecks a place this time of year? Sounds like they got away with a lot of good loot though.

foghorn67 - he only moved about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and I seem to recall something similar here (not sure though), so definitely worth giving the insurance co a call.

Unfortunately, this is the time of year when home burglaries go up... they know many houses will be loaded with lots of expensive presents.

That fucking sucks. I'm not even going to make a sheep joke.

It may be difficult, but try to have a good Christmas, and I hope those asshole robbers get what's coming to them.

I hate humanity.

I could say something about living so close to a former penal colony... but i'll skip that... 😛 This isn't the thread to harass ya about Austrailia 🙂

Hopefully GA's homeowners insurance (or renters) .. will cover the losses.

Did the constables find any evidence they could use to figure out who did it?

isn't there a way to track where cell phones are with their internal gps? maybe burglars are stupid and left it on

If the cellphone is actually used, its location can be narrowed using tower triangulation. the longer it's used, the narrower the area of use can be determined.

Yes, I know that. I don't know if you could get the cellphone company to cooperate though. :|

I can't see the busy Auckland police putting in this kind of effort for a "routine" burglary.

Well... with the amount of stuff stolen, i'd hesitate to guess that GA might not have been the only house robbed. If he can show it's a string of robberies, that could push it into (at least in the USA) an epedemic... and with the monetary value of all the items stolen (at least in the USA) .. it would become Grand Larceny and now fall to a Robbery/Homicide detective, and not a street cop.

Hell... he should be able to go online and see if his phone has made any calls (assuming your provider has that capability) to at least give them a lead in the case.
