Have a new job that requires me to be outdoors yet dressed business casual all the time (real estate agent in NYC) and find this week of rainstorms terrible - my feet are freezing, sore (I walk about 5 miles a day), and wet. I definately need to upgrade my footware but nothing too pretentious or extravagent.

Any suggestions? Boots don't work because they're heavy and look terrible with a blazer (which I wear every day).
Thanks!

I have a pair of ECCO dress shoes I bought literally 10+ years ago. The soles are barely worn and the uppers still look good enough to wear on interviews. The soles obviously don't soak up water like full leather dress shoes do so unless you step in a puddle your feet should remain relatively dry.

I've used Merrells and Eccos a lot in the past. Ecco's were much more comfortable to me, but the Merrells sometimes had a Gore-Tek lining. If you are worried about rainstorms and such, the Gore-Tek may be worth looking into. They have them on all kinds of styles.

I'll never buy another pair of ECCO's again in my life.

I've had two pair where the soles dry-rotted and the heels completely crumbled to bits.

Ecco refused to do anything about it as my shoes were out of warranty - and of course hundreds of complaints online. These were $180 Ecco City's!

For comfort - Mephisto, Clarks, Rockport and if you can afford em - Allen Edmonds.

Merrell hiking shoes/boots are far and away my favorite brand. Their shoes fit my feet well without any break-in period usually required and the shoes are REALLY durable.

Do they make dressier stuff? I had no idea.

Born shoes FTW.
That reminds me, I need to find my Born shoes. My wife thinks they are ugly & I suspect she's hidden them in order to prevent me from wearing them.

(They are these multi-colored borderline clown looking ones, but they are sooo comfy)

If you gotta walk in Allen Edmonds for more than a few minutes a day, ya can't afford them! :D I will spend hundreds on a watch, but I can't imagine spending hundreds on a pair of shoes.

A pair of Vasque or Scarpa one piece leather hiking boots can look professional if you keep them clean and oiled.
