Yeah, some companies suck like that.
Out of notebook manufacturers, I'd expect the slower to market brands to release the Merom BIOSes while companies like Dell would just release new models.

Someone has already tested Merom in a Dell M1710 and it worked fine without a bios update. Since the M1710 and E1705 share the same mainboard, it will also work in the E1705.

And they don't necessarily share the same BIOS, but they do share the same chipset.
