Mero 2033 tweaks ?

I was wondering if anybody knew of any config tweaks that were worth a damn for performance. I love the game but would like to get better performance in one type of area in particular

I found the config file and have modified my POV which is great. what I would like to do is change the lighting intesity. It looks great stock but absolutely destroys performance. If i could change a value for this I could run 2560x1600 all the time instead of changing the resolution when i get to the ares where there is extreme lighting (for example, the very beginning of the game when you get attacked by the first couple monsters).

those are the cvars but I'm unsure if anything in there is related to what im looking for.

changing the r_gi "0" to 1 isn't what I'm looking for which some of you might be thinking to suggest

Any help would be appreciated

I just use medium presets with AAA, but DOF and tessellation are disabled. It runs fine at 2560x1600 on the system below.

BFG10K, have you ever tested to see if it runs faster in DX10 as opposed to DX11? I believe tessellation and advanced dof are the only DX11 options so if someone is not using those then would DX10 help or hinder performance?

the game ran great for me in DX10 high settings, AAA and at 1920x1080. I even ran very high settings for more than half the game and noticed only a very few sluggish spots.

The game is 95% playable (to me atleast) using very high, tessalation, AAA 16 AF. Frames are generally 35 + It is only when i get into areas showing extreme brightness like an opening to outside moscow or something. Even in the actual city performance is great. Just the extreme lighting area, which I have no said way too many times.

There has got to be a way to tone that down. I don't see anything in the config files that helps... I've tried some too.

Maybe there is a way to create a mix match high/very high config much like people did with Crysis?

DX10 runs faster than DX11 on my system. Noticeably faster. Very High in DX10 is what I ended up running at with AAA. The game looks great and only gets choppy in the scenes already mentioned above (Extremely bright light shining from above). But with that said, the performance was just slightly not good enough for my liking, so I ended up switching to High settings with DX11 and Tesselation enabled for my second playthrough of the game. It's quite smooth at these settings and still looks great, so far so good.

Back to the point - DX10 allowed me to run Very High settings, DX11 was choppy and unplayable on Very High even with Tesselation and DoF disabled. My understanding is that there's no image quality difference with those settings disabled so I'm a bit disappointed and quite frankly it reminds me of when DX10 debuted - games like Crysis...etc. ran significantly better in DX9. I did try DX9 in Metro 2033 but it looks awful even if it runs much smoother, I'm not sure exactly what makes it look this bad but DX9 was absolutely out of the question for me.

is there a big difference in dx11 in visuals to take the performance hit vs dx10? i set it on dx10 and finished it and thought it looked more than good enough.

nosoup4you hit it. Unless studying a still scene for visual differences with tesslation on/off, DX10 AAA w/very high settings offers the best IQ to performance ratio, even with 480 SLI. If a scene dictated it, I switched to the other AA setting, still looked great.
