'Merica, F yeah!

You see this kind of stuff happening in other scenarios. For example, when a high end clothing store can't sell something, they somtimes spray paint it to ruin it. The idea is that you don't want to devalue the other merchandise out there by giving stuff away for free or a reduced price.

It's inexcusable in any situation, but especially with food. It's not like you get a basket load food, and you're good forever. Any drop in the market value will disappear after a week or two.

Pretty sad but does not surprise me something like this would happen in capitalist America.

It kind of reminds me when insurance companies order a fairly good car to be destroyed because of some kind of claim. Like it was stolen or something and ends up being found. God forbid someone gets a freebie.

Just such a waste.

I'm not quite sure why you'd expect anything different in a non-capitalist country? You think an African country would have done this? Instead of a church trying to help the poor, it'd have been rebel groups using the food to get children soldiers. What about Iran, Syria, or any other country? You think this would have been handled differently in Canada, the UK, France or somewhere else?

Your phrase should be, "I'm ignorant, fuck yeah!"

selling food is highly regulated. often times food is destroyed because of the massive liability associated with giving it away.

100% true. This happens all the time communist societies as well. All you need to do is take a look at pudgy little despot Kim Jong Un. He's got plenty of food while his people starve to death.

People are scum no matter where you go. The beauty of capitalism is there's a way to hit these folks where it hurts. If you're a customer of that bank, you let them know their actions are inexcusable, close your accounts and take your business elsewhere.

Is that some commie website, or maybe the article writer was? Having housing is a right? Should've figured, I guess, since they blamed "capitalism" for the whole thing instead of people acting like fucking fools.

Books stores do it with books too, if they can't sell them, or if magazines expire, they toss them into the dumpster. Recycling isn't even an option. Pet store? They toss out ripped dog food bags, expired dog food, etc instead of sending it to a local human society.

That doesn't entirely make sense to me. If the bank wasn't going to be in the grocery business, then they shouldn't care whether giving away merchandise would devalue anything. All they care about is the property itself.

Whatever the reason is for throwing that food away, it wouldn't seem to have much to do with capitalism, besides the eviction itself anyway.

Along with shoe stores, they razorblade all left foot shoes when its time to throw them away.

It probably should be a right at this point. Homeless shelters are ugly to look at but it still looks a lot better than having bums sleeping on the street.

Ya know, even humans are going to turn their nose up at expired dog food. :colbert:

This. Wife over bought canned goods for some charity dinner, took 'em back to wal mart, they would give us a credit but toss the cans because they couldn't resell.

Think if some of the food had been recalled and/or people got sick from eating it - that would be a massive liability to whoever decided to give it out to the people.

Capitalism isn't the problem. Greed, lack of responsibility, and poor decision making are amongst the many problems at the top of the corporate food chain which causes these problems. All of the buzz words levied about by the private sector about our work force, i.e. productivity, personal responsibility, apathy, are all the problems with management and instead of looking in the mirror they just pass the buck to the rest of us who actually do get up and go to work and work hard everyday. Capitalism was never the problem, leadership is.

ive seen ths happen in person. ive watched them bulldose leftovers from farmers markets into the trash while keeping people away.

I wanted food one time. So I got off my ass and got a job. Hell, I worked two jobs and took classes so I could continue to feed myself.

Many people in that parking lot probably knew all too well how evictions work, and were in desperate need of the food assistance.

Its hard to tell from the low-res photo, but no where there looks like they are starving to me.
