Merging Hardrive

i remember going on this board and asking for help on how to merge 2 partitions (for a slave hd), someone suggested to delete both partitions on the hd in xps disk management and the two should automatically merge together, it turns out it was as easy as that! 🙂

I just built a brand new system, but am having trouble with my HD. I have a similar problem but this time its on the main drive (master hd), and obviously i can not delete both partitions since im using it as my main. Does anyone know how to merge 2 partitions on a hd that is used as the master? I did some research on this and one person on another forum said to delete both partitions during xps setup then both will merge together (disk management style) however when i do that it doesn't happen. Instead I only see 2 unallocated drives. If I repartition one of the unallocated drivers the other will still remain unallocated. Thx in advance for any help!

EDIT: Just wanted to mention this, I'm not sure if the 250GB HD (OEM) I got came with 2 separate partitions or not. When I installed the HD to my new system it came up about 128 gigs on the 1st partition and the second about 105 gigs (unallocated) Does this has anything to do with the fact my XP (no service packs, i never slipstreamed) can't detect anything passed 137GB?

On the last part, yes, XP can't detect/format over 137GB without SP1 or 2 (can't remember which), which is why you have the 105GB unallocated.

Partition Magic 8 has a "Merge Partitions" function that allows merging of two partitions of a like type, i.e., both NTFS. It is on page 52 of the Users Guide. Get it here in PDF format:
