Merged threads or 1 thread for the entire conflict in gaza

here is the thread
http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2265111&enterthread=y

755 replies and only 404 views. I feel like dumping all of one topic kills discussion. I honestly think people who are pro isreal don't want this topic discussed and we now have a form of censorship in the fact that you must read through garbled jumbled threads to find any relevant info and nobody is doing that. By making this thread it has effectively stopped debate on this subject.

People are getting banned for 2 days for starting threads about Gaza because this thread exists. If someone starts a thread about something close to Gaza like this one

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2267872&enterthread=y

Israeli supporters jump in and say there is a conflict thread already ad it should go in there. It's BS.

this thread

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2267756&enterthread=y

only has 15 replies and 307 views.

Thank you for your consideration on this subject. I will accept whatever the outcome.

Seems like you already have your answer.

Why? Because of the fact that that first thread exists? Maybe somebody hasn't come in and cleaned them up yet? Either way maybe a policy should be in place so this doesn't happen again in the future.

Did they merge some threads into it? That may explain why it has more replies than views? Just throwing that possibility out there..

Well Yes of course 🙂 but still you can see that once merged nobody goes in there to read them. But whatever I'm not really catching that this is anywhere near important to anybody.

Good. It's a subject that gets way more attention than it deserves IMO.

Yep.

The way it is also keeps the attention seekers (they know who they are) from posting misleading and sensational thread titles.

I stopped paying attention after I was warned for making threads and had all my threads merged and I watch people making threads left and right with no warnings. Doesn't seem to matter though since this forum is either split up into a "Israel is killing for land which justifies Hamas killing for land!" or "Haman is killing Jews so Israel is justified in its actions" with no middle ground. Still pretty shitty that certain threads are left open and other threads are closed. I can count a few threads on the main page that could be merged.

I agree with you but the forum is politics and news. I think we lose sight of that and think the forum is only about debate. I am a busy guy and while i do debate some in P&N I use it to keep me attached to whats going on around the world and in our government. Threads like this are useless because news headlines are buried and never seen no matter what side starts them.

Maybe one of the restrictions that can be imposed is when a topic becomes heated people can only post new threads on that topic if it is accompanied by an article that has not been discussed yet. This would curb the fanboi "Zomg do you tinks teh Israel is evol?" threads.

This topic is a perfect example but i guarantee there will be other topics that pop up that will be as or more heated and it would be nice to keep the news flowing without turning it into unreadable mega thread.

People were making threads while I have been off line for the past week.

why is it that that doctor thread that you locked and gave the guy a week off has over 800 views and its been active for 2 days and the entire gaza thread that has been there for weeks has around 600? I mean if the choice of the mods is to censor all of the threads on this subject just say so. Could i receive some kind of actual response from the mods? This doesn't make sense.

I'm glad you made this thread because it seems the person who made the cease-fire thread was also banned for one week. The one thread idea is a horrible one and makes it impossible to have any type of meaningful discussion but then again maybe that was the intention.

It's a very silly policy.

And also very silly for people to choose to ignore it. The reasoning was indicated in the beginning.
People chose to ignore the intent. People received the response that was promised.

The views get reset when the threads were merged.

Having to have 10-12 threads take up the first page was the reason for the consolidation.

When the excitement dies down, so will the restrictions.

Why do you feel that the intent was to stiffle discussion? the main threads were not locked - people were encouraged to funnel into the threads, allow cross polenation.

Because, to me at least and apparently others, it was obvious that was going to be the outcome before it happened.

Of course the views get reset but my point is the entire gaza/isreal thread has less views then a thread started 2 days ago. That tells you people are eager to read about the conflict but like me don't want to waist time digging through one huge thread.

My constructive idea is to allow new threads on the subject as long as they accompany a news article. This would stop silly threads. I understand your concern about the front page being all gaza but to stop all news on the subject is in my view a little heavy handed.
