Merge Multiple mp3 Files Into 1 File?

Going on a road trip and found some free books in MP3 format. I downloaded one and it was a zip and the book is 52 files and 350 mb. Can/should I merge them into one file or would that make playback more difficult?

Plan to put them on a USB drive.

My car entertainment system lists the tracks individually even if they are in a folder. I use a small free program called "Merge MP3" to combine tracks. Makes the menu much less cluttered, but of course the disadvantage is you can no longer jump manually from track to track.

Shouldn't have problem with folders
Well, it is Suburu Skylink. There are a lot of posts on the internet about folders not working properly unless you format the USB drive in a certain way, which I did not exactly understand and havent taken the time to try to figure out yet.

Bizarre setup.
It works fine for everything else, and I love Android Auto, but yea, the USB interface is "unusual" to say the least. Part of the problem is I got the base model with only one usb port and no CD player, so I have to play everything from my phone or usb.
