Mercury Marauder - Opinions?

I think it looks like a pretty sweet sedan. Why the hell does someone make a performance car with only an automatic transmission offered? I was prepared to put it on my short list for next car, but I refuse to drive an automatic transmission in a performance car.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't care for the style. The slushbox only is 'cause few manuals will be bought and they don't want the extra expense of tooling for a few more sales.

autos can perform damn well nowadays

target market doesn't want manuals... would cost more to put it in the car then it's worth to sell

those cars are alright.. pretty cool looking.. not very fast. my dads good friend had one from Ford (pre-release car) and it was not too bad, but not as fast as I thought it would be.. but none-the-less a neat full-size 'performance' sedan.

I guarantee they sell more automatic V6 and GT Mustangs than they do manual, yet the Cobra only comes in manual.

And no matter how well autos perform, they don't have the feel and control of a manual.

I don?t think it was meant to be a corner carver type of car, it?s meant for people who just want a full size RWD car that has a little ass to it car like the Impala SS that GM killed. Plus I read somewhere that they couldn?t put a stick in it because they would have to cut a piece of the car that was needed to pass crash tests. It would have been better with the 5.4 than the 4.6 you need more torque for such a big car.🙂

I heard they couldn't fit a decent V8 under the eensie hood, so we're stuck with the 4.6. The auto would suit me fine though. Hell, when I had a four speed, I shifted straight from 1st to fourth 90% of the time. Pain in the ass trying to eat and shift too. Shoot, I'd rather have it on the column, instead of a console for that matter!

I'd like to know what the quarter mile ET is for this thing too. It's like some kind of secret they're afraid to let slip or something. It's a step in the right direction, but I'd like to see a little more old tech grunt next time around.

Edit: Finally found this: "The combination hurtles this two-ton machine from rest to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds." I hope they can do better by the time it's released!

Motor Trend had a "Marauder versus Mercedes SL500" shootout in a recent issue.

Quite funny considering you can get 2.5 Mercury's for the cost of 1 SL500...
