Merchant Pricing on Hardware

Hey,

I know someone who works at Microcenter in VA so he's able to get me anything in the store for the cost of the product to the store + %5. Only problem is there's no easy way for me or him to lookup that price (you need a manager to get it, and I want to be able to browse around a little bit at the markdowned prices). The marked down prices can vary a lot compared to the markuped prices depending on what you're getting, so I can't have a really good idea of how much I'm going to get off.

I was curious if anyone knew of a way to easily look at the price that merchants pay to the manufacturer for computer stuff. Not that I need to be able to buy them from anyone at that price, I just want to know what the price actually is.

Nope, gotta have them check their cost, not really a way around that. However double check with neweggs price also, alot of times the cost there ends up being cheaper then even employee discount at a retail chain, especially when you count in taxes.

Take the list price, then figger on 49 percent discount for the big players, 27% discount four the frequent players, and 15% discount for the occasional but regular players. You can give this friend a list of what you want and what you are willing to pay. Some common price items:

Norton AntiVirus: List $59.95 Discounted to $32. Microsoft Windows XP Home: List $178. Discount $85. Microsoft Windows XP Professional: List $299.95. Discount $138.40. Adobe discounts are not that great. Neither are Macromedia packages, but still substantial.

You can also take the Academic prices, and assume that the professional prices are about 10% lower than the academic prices.

Microsoft Office XP Home in Bangkok, Thailand is $27. But that is because there are so many illegal versions about, that they had to drop their prices to be competitive.
