Mercedes takes the wraps off their new X5 killer (yeah right), the new M-Class

No flaming, but I think the M-class is a bit soft and has nothing real from both worlds, (off-road or street). If you want to see the X5 killer, wait for the Detroit show: Porsche will launch their Cayenne. That cars is full off-road and runs like a racer on the street. How? It has an adjustabel air suspension, down for street, up for off. It comes with 460 hps and a world first 6-shift automatic transmission and will blow away the good old X5 (and the Merc anway.)

It's useless anyhow. Mercedes should just sell a Minivan instead. They could market it the exact same, have a commercial as a day at the Mall with mom and the 4 trolls.

BMW is also coming out with a 400HP X5 powered by the M5 engine :D And the Cayenne looks like dog poop. And it's a DISGRACE that Porsche would stoop as low as to build an SUV. Just pitiful:|

Pal, don't get me wrong, you are talking about cars you have not seen and not driven,
I have seen and driven all of 3 cars, and believe me, the Cayenne looks sexy, where the BMW and
the Merc look like plumb ducks. The Cayenne is driving like a racing car, goes up to 265 km/h. No other SUV (or how you call this) comes even close to this.

Other thing, the BMW can never match the Cayenne, cause even the M5 engine is too weak, the car is too heavy, and builds too high for sharp cornering. It was never constrcuted for that kind of HP handling.

Ouch I hope Porsche doesn't plan on making that SUV in the spy photo. That thing is about as ugly as a 1964 Volvo station wagon.Well figure thats the next logical step in stooping low, seeing that they already are putting automatic trans in their beloved Turbo Carreras.

Rest assured, the Cayenne looks different and 100% like a racing car.

Porsche put in the Automatic transmission on demand of the US cusomers, NOBODY in Europe
would drive such a car with an automatic transmission. Neverthess, it's the best automatic transmission ever made for such kind of car. I cannot shift faster adn more precise at the right moment.

OK, so you're telling me that you have driven a 400HP X5, the "NEW" M-Class as seen in the link in my first post, AND the unreleased Porsche Cayenne which is still months away (as well as testing in EUROPE) which we don't have final product specs for and that you have seen the vehicle in the flesh...

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT:)

I'll believe that when I see it. As for me, I've seen the ML55 (not the new one) and X5 up close and personal. I'm a car nut, so it's my duty:D You don't have to drive a vehicle to know that it looks like crap. I've never driven the Aztek, but I can tell you it looks like sh!t.

Considering that an M5 can perform blow for blow the same as a stock C5 Corvette, I find that hard to believe. The M5 may be heavy, but it is NO slouch.

The thing about BMW V8's is that that they have massive amounts of torque. The 5.0 V8 pushes the M5 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. Hell, the 4.4 liter V8 in the X5 pushes it 0-60 in 6.7 seconds. And that is with "only" 282HP. Torque is what counts there. The M5 engine will make it a screamer.

And calling the M5 engine weak is like saying that Halle Berry is an ulgy mofo.

This is quite strange from somebody calling himself a "car nut". I'm in car racing and testing cars since 20 years. Withour driving a car, you can't say anything about the quality. If you are only out for design yes, but NO serious car nut, is interested merely in design. Talking about SUV without having driven them is 100% nonsense.

Would YOU drive an ugly vehicle as your personal vehicle?? Would you drive a Pontiac Aztec?? Would you drive a Hyundai X300? Would you drive a Buick Rendevous?? How about a Chevrolet Avalanche?? Looks play a BIG part in buying decisions. Looks and performance are top billing with high dollar vehicles like those.

The Consiluer GTP is a great performing car, but it is an ugly ducking.

But for you to say that you can't like a design of a vehicle without driving it is nonsense.

hmmm, that is right for the US market with such kind of speed restriction that my grandma is faster when walking. For other markets, and for the real fun (car racing) only rpm counts, ask
Ferrari or Porsche

Yep, I would never drive an ugly car. As I said, I have seen the actual Cayenne, as you will in Detroit. The snapshots of half corvered testing and prototype do not say a lot. The car companies have a lot of tricks to disguise the real shape and hide the most interesting features. Remember the first pics of the current MB E class, 8 years ago? Peeps were laughing and swearing never to buy such an ugly monster. And now?

For heavy vehicles like the M5 and X5, low-end torque is what gets those monsters moving. How the heck else can you get a 5,000 lb Bently to do 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds? About 600 lb-ft of torque is what does it :D

High RPM revving is nice for the track, but get a Honda S2000 in city traffic and watch your arm get tired of shifting.

My truck has 460HP and 550Lbs of torque has a 4.10 gear ratio and hits 2700RPM at 100MPH and redlines at 5500. So I think it can outrun your grandma + I could pull the ferrari plant off it's foundation.

Well if real road performance is so important to you why is Prosche getting beat by Viper and Vette in the Motorola class?? those are the closest things you get to the real cars your gonna get on the road :Q

Oh wait Viper has absolutly no TQ though, it's a total boat anchor with it's heavy CAT's and Sound Shielding you guys get to overlook.

well the x5 maybe never have been constructed for that kind of hp handling, but it does quite well when it took a bmw lemans engine of over 650hp in it and lapped nurburing at over 170mph in the rain w/ almost stock suspension and everything else.

nfs4, i know you'll have the link for me since i can't seem to find it:)
