Mercedes or BMW???????????????????????????????????

Well, although I dislike the condition of my sister's '98, I do have to say that it is still running well after 117,000 miles and everything still works........(moonroof acts a little finicky upon closing, but who's to say that ain't Japanese electronics?? LOL)

Anyway, I for one, love what Bangle has done for the BMW lineup. A neighbor of mine has a 7 series that drops my jaw every time it goes by.

More importantly......(at least from what I can tell in magazines)......the car seems to be evolving well also. I don't care how good it looks, if it's not getting better as model years go by.

MBZ still has a place in my heart, but I think BMW has this one wrapped up!

Mercedes is an overrated POS automaker. BMW makes great cars. What I hate about luxury cars like these are some of the people who drive them. They think they're gods gift to the world, and own the roads.

FWIW - my best friend from college is the BOSE rep to Mercedes...and they say THEY wouldn't buy one to save their life, advised against me getting one when I thought about it. Horrible reliability in the last few years according to my inside source, who knows a lot of the German MB engineers. Still, they have great re-sale value.

I once had a BMW 325is that I bought off-lease @ 4 years and 28k miles. Had it another 5 and it still ran like a top, finally died when I was rearended by a truck at 100k mi. I think it still had a few good years of life left it in...

Mercedes quality has really dropped in the past few years while Chrysler has gone up. I had a '02 C230K and never had any major issues with it but a guy who works for the same company as me has nearly the exact same ride and has had nothing but problems. Entire engine replaced and just major major problems. He should have lemoned it but it's past that point now. Anyways, point I'm getting at is starting w either MY04 or MY05 they stopped the free maintenance. I used to be able to call them up for the stupidest thing like my sunroof shade being stuck and they would send someone out w a loaner, pick up the old ride, fix whatever needed to be fixed, wash and vacuum it and bring it back to me. Everything except the tires was covered. Greatest thing ever. I actually leased in and I had some very minor damage around one of the wheel wells. Think some jack4ss hit it with a cart at Preakness...all covered...no problem when I turned it in. Now that they've canceled the free maintenance for new cars and considering the decline in quality I wouldn't buy another Mercedes. Almost went with a 330ci recently but ended up getting an Acura TL.

No offense, but that kinda made me chuckle. 😀

hmm...i've never heard of Mercs having such problems here in the UK, mebbe they ship the crap ones to USA?...heh....or if they have a plant in the USA mebbe Lexus have saboteurs in the factory....lol

i still say the SLK rules tho, the Kompressor Coupe version.....BMW has NOTHING to touch that baby....lol.....

I love what Mercedes does, been a big fan of theirs most of my life.

BUT if I had to buy a car right now, it would not be a mercedes, too many reliability issues. Hopefully they will fix this sometime in my lifetime and I can afford to buy one. 🙁

wrt your poll though then, BMW.
