Definitely a chick car. Anyone seriously wanting roadster performance should look to the TT, Boxster, or Z3. I remember watching a shootout of the Boxster, Z3 and the SLK on German TV one time (couldn't understand the narrative) but watching them drive the cars and showing graphs, the SLK was last in all cases.

It just looks like a woman's accessory.

Oh, and a guy that used to work at my client's HQ had one and he was so into himself (had every certification under the sun and thought his sh*t didn't stink).

definately chick car.

anyway, I was at the mercedes dealership to take my car in for repair and sat in the SLK to see what all the hype was about...
the entire interior looked cheap (like a genuine chrysler[which it is])... it didn't have the mercedes feel to it.

that car should never have been branded a mercedes. it felt so cheap sitting in that thing.

do you know anything about cars? :)

anyhow yeah it's a roadster and its supercharged but it's not on the high end for performance (they make some nice souped up models of it, though not from MB).. z3/tt is up next (though m roadster is nice) then boxster.

Boxster is always beautiful. SLK is usually a chick car IMO but nice in any case, i personally hate driving it because it's so cramped. boxster on the other hand was wonderful to drive

there are exceptions to every rule and i think mustangs (all types whether convertible or not) are chick cars as oppossed to chick magnet cars.

No way is it a chick car, even the new S coupe by them is not a chick car. NE1 see that new hatchback? Reminds me of a VW Corrado. Thats a manly, macho ride, all those Luxo-German ride are.

SLK is not a chrysler. IIRC it was out before the merger was completed. plus theres been no sharing yet between the two companies. all benz has done is fire everyone that made chrysler a pretty good company.

there was this extremely hot chick in my building that had one... damn she was hot. there were about 5 guys in my apartment the day she moved out, we all watched her, it was pitiful.

Actually, the low end ones (smallest motor available) are all pretty close except for the Boxster, which doesn't come with anything less than 217hp, while all the others are in the 180-190hp range. The TT with Quattro might handle better, but you have to buy the 225hp model to get Quattro in the Roadster version. And I doubt a Z3 handles much better...

The SLK is also the one with the best roof, no question about that, which is important in a roadster IMO. I don't think it's a chick car, at least not as much as a Miata. ;)

The reason I ask is, the dealer here has a '98 SLK 230 with 50,000km (~30,000mi) on it for $35,000CDN (~$22,000USD). I've always wanted a convertible, but I can't get a softtop one because of the weather here.

That's actually pretty cheap, if it is in good condition w/ average mileage. It's tough to find a used SLK for under $30K U.S. around here.

A car for secretaries, albeit well paid ones. Certainly absent any sign of testosterone. Maybe a good car for your interior decorator.
