Next time, remove your head from your @ss before speaking. While it may not be attractive is a well proven vehicle that has proven its off road prowess again and again for the last 25+ years. It really is the European equivalent of a Hummer; designed to go anywhere.

Jealous??
Nah. I just have a pet peeve about people who will drop $100k on their teenage children at the drop of a hat.

People used to pay upwards of $130,000 to get those imported before MB started selling them in North America. Some dude out in Arizona or New Mexico made a killing cuz he was the exclusive importer (back then it was called Geldewagen or something like that...)

I bet they feel stupid now.

Personally, I would take a loaded V10 Touareg (imported) or a nice new Range Rover before I paid any money for that piece of sh*t.

i find it funny that you would buy a SUV to go fast rather than an SUV to go offroading.

Here is a 1980, and I think there are older ones than that.

They are basically German military jeeps that MB shined up, put leather seats in and charged $90K for. I think it ranked last among all luxury SUVs in some car mag I read.

Which mag and what were they comparing it to and what was their criteria....if it came in last compared to the escalade and their main criteria was off roading then I would question the credibility of the mag/review

I have seen a few out and about and I am indifferent on the style of them, somedays I like it others I don't ...still would take a discovery over one anyday.

It was in either C&D or Motortrend. Checked their sites but couldn't seem to find it. I don't think it was dead last. I think it was either the Escalade or the Range Rover that was last. Forgot who won though.

A) Some rich people are poseurs and snobs.
B) Some rich people are just plain stupid when it comes to cars.
C) Marketing to dumbasses works sometimes

Confucius says, "A fool and his money are soon parted"
I've never seen a G55 or G500 that wasn't pristine and driven by some prick thinking he's something special with that car. They drive it like it's a sports car on NJ roads? WTF?

I've seen so money around here in SoCal that is not even funny. Most of these people are putting 22' with low profile tires on them. I'm betting most of them don't give a fvck what their cars can do, but only care of being seeing driving an expensive car.

I think Edmunds had a similar compare and the G500 came in the bottom half, while the Escalade won I think. The criteria is mainly everyday usability for the common citizen. The G might be a great off roader but there are better choices if you only plan to drive it in the city

WTF are you talking about? The Range is like one of the all-time most capable offroad SUVs, and the Touareg has proven itself to be a capable offroader as well (hell it goes through 22" of water no prob, offers up to 3 locking differentials etc.)

Gay looking (fitting for a merc - which only pimps and girls drive anyway). No idea it cost that much. What a sh*ty vehicle.

what makes it a "sh*ty" vehicle? the design has remained almost what it was when it was first introduced in the 1970's. have you driven one? sure, 95% of those who buy them won't offroad them, but for the <5% that do, it's probably one of the best stock offroaders. and i think MB's stopping production in 2005/2006 or something because they made a deal to sell them to the US army (I think that was it). drive one offroad and lets see if you still say it's a "sh*ty" vehicle

edit: by the way, no, i don't own one

"the design has remained almost what it was when it was first introduced in the 1970's" Part of the reason it's sh*ty. " 95% of those who buy them won't offroad them" Probably more like 98-99 😉 Overall it's sh*ty because it's a car that has less than 300 horsepower, costs a FREAKING TON of money, is ugly as SH*T. That makes it sh*ty. Granted, it may be good offroading so if you need an offroad vehicle by all means spend $76k on this thing.

g500 has 292hp. g55 has over 340 😉

and yes, i do agree with the styling part... not really a fan of that. more of a fan of the classic range rovers and the defender 110's
