Menu options lingering on screen in win 7

Hi everyone,
I have windows 7 enterprise 64 bit and when I click on menus certain options stay up indefinitely. For example, several hours ago I selected a new window in chrome and the menu option is still lingering and it persists while going to other programs. The only way I can seem to get rid of it is to restart but after a few hours of using the computer inevitably a different menu option will linger. This seems like a totally bizarre problem, does anyone have any suggestions?

I vote video driver - it might even be worth totally removing the existing driver and then reinstalling with the most up to date one available.
