Mention of some illegal acts more illegal than others?

This thead in PC Gaming is related indirectly to software piracy; and within it some members had mentioned that they at one time pirated software only to be warned of the consequences of such an admission on these forums. I was simply wondering why there are consequences for the mentioning this transgression while I never seen mods reprimand the many similar instances that occur in OT. Take speeding for example; there have been numerous threads on speeding where members routinely admit that they have, and will continue to, break posted speed limits and I can't say that I often, if ever, see mods intervene and prevent members from admitting they speed. Speeding is just an example, there are many other instances. I'm just wondering why software piracy deserves more attention than, in this example, speeding? Not that I'm personally offended that my post got edited, but I'm just curious.

Oh, additionally, why is it that then when my post was edited (in the aforementioned thread) the actual part that was on topic was deleted, leaving only the part that garnered a warning? 😛

I agree. Members should be able to relate their experiences as long as they are not encouraging others to participate in said activities. I always thought the piracy issue was limited to not encouraging, instructing or giving out other information in how to engage in acts of piracy.

It's difficult sometimes to discuss an issue or raise a point if you cannot relate some of your own experiences.

I could see locking threads if someone bragged about past piracy, but otherwise no. Simply saying, "I've pirated a game before and this is why/what it meant to me and the industry/etc." ought not be grounds for locking a thread or issuing warnings.

where trying to walk a fine line between allowing discussion of these types of topics and activities while not allowing the promotion of illegal stuff.

give us some time to figure out where the balance is.

your feedback helps.

also, nothing in your post should be deleted unless it violates our tos/guidelines. if that happened it was a mistake.

I will add while speeding is a 'crime' against the state, in many cases copyright infringment is outright theft of *my* intellectual property. So you'll excuse us if you aren't quick to condone it 😉

I'm sorry if my point in this thread was misinterpreted. I, by no means, condone piracy. I also don't believe that AT is condoning it simply by not giving users who speak about past experiences a warning. The analogy follows; AT doesn't condone speeding or smoking pot simply because mods aren't giving warnings in threads where such discussion exists.

Thanks for the reply Derek, I'm assuming my on topic portion was simply deleted by mistake. It happens.
