My wife went to a conference for women this weekend. The speaker told a story of a singles retreat that she went on several years ago. The men and women were seperated into groups, and put on opposite sides of the room. The speaker told them that he was going to present them with two bad situations, and ask them which one they would choose.
1. I would rather be alone and feel unloved than feel disrespected and inadequate.
2. I would rather feel disrespected and inadequate than be alone and feel unloved.
He asked them men how many of them would choose option 1, and probably 90% of the men raised their hands. There was an audible gasp from the womens side of the room. Then, he posed the same question to the women. Every one of them said they would rather feel disrespected and inadequate than be alone and feel unloved.
