Sexy calendars and pictures of topless models in tabloid newspapers really do lead men to think of women as objects, research shows.

When men are shown images of women in bikinis, the part of the brain they use when thinking about DIY tools and other objects lights up.

At the same time, the region they use to try to tune into another person's thoughts and feelings tunes down, brain scans showed.

Her experiments also found, perhaps not surprisingly, that men remember the images of scantily-clad women better than those of fully-clothed women.

Damn science for killing all our excuses :(

Wait a moment. This study only really shows that when men are shown a THING like a photo, the part of their brain that processes objects is active, and not the part that processes PEOPLE.
So we are now one step closer to proving that Picture != Person

In all seriousness, the lady running the study should've thought of that and rolled out topless women in the flesh and done the brain scans again. Bad science is bad.

I volunteer to run the topless women brain scan study. I can even envision the title:
Topless women and fMRI scan data variance.
The periodicals will be fighting each other for the rights to publish it.

Well, duh.

edit: Look, no one ever argued that the women in Playboy or porn weren't being objectified. The idiocy takes over when you try to apply a finding like this to real women, in real life, that I really know.

Isn't this a good thing? Wives, girlfriends, etc. don't have to worry about their men reading playboy or looking at otherwise scantily-clad/naked women, because when we do we just see them as objects, whereas when we look at the aforementioned wife/girlfriend we see a real person? All it shows is men don't have feelings for the women they see in magazines, which should combat some insecurity issues.

Of course we do. And, as a follow up, who freaking cares and why does it matter one damn bit? If some whore is going to strip and pose for a calendar, great! We'll pay her paycheck! I highly doubt anyone looking at that calendar wonders if she likes long walks on the beach or anything.

Newsflash: Women objectify THEMSELVES. Men take the bait. Women eat up all the attention and money which is what they were after in the first place.

Well that was obvious. I know when I look at a topless woman, I'm generally thinking how I could use her to mount a ceiling fan in my living room. Kind of like how when I look at a belt sander, I'm figuring out the best way to fuck it... They go hand in hand.

I read that as "the part of the brain signaling desire lights up.", which more likely has less to do with how "human" a man's brain might rate an image of a woman, and more to do with impulses and perception of T&A overriding other thought processes.

How nice of her to throw in such a slant.

...A study in to why men desire tools so much might be more worthy. :p
