Are you 100% sure it's a hernia?? Some of the symptoms you described mirror the two times I had ulcers. I was in agony and had a constant, dull aching feeling. It never got better on its own so I had to get Axid. The second time Axid didn't work so I got Prevacid and it worked like a charm.

Regardless of not having health insurance you really need to get it checked out.

They can be VERY dangerous!

Once the hernia happens, the muscles can cut off the blood supply to the protruding tissue, the tissue can then DIE, becoming very nasty and deadly!

My father just recently had 2 hernias and had them fixed.. he showed me how black and blue it had gotten and also described it as unbearably painful. So UnixFreak, I empathize.. must be terrible. Just suck down those painkillers and give it some time.

A hernia is a protrusion of part or all of an organ through a wall of the space in which it is normally contained.

Prolapse (like the "tulip" in tubgirl) are a form of hernia, as well as when one stresses far too much in lifting, and the combined pressure forcing some organ or another through the cavity holding the guts. Check out WebMD or google for more information.

It's when part of your guts poke through your muscles. IE your muscles separate allowing said guts to protrude through.

Can be *in* them if your intestine drops low enough.

The only one I ever had was just below my naval. Basically you can get them pretty much anyplace there are guts beneath muscles.

I wish! I remember I had to be carried around because I couldn't walk due to the pain.
