Men, don't ever get a hernia!

I have been familiar with what a hernia is for quite some time. I have heard of people getting them, but only knew of one person getting one, and she was a girl, and she said the pain was intense but I had no idea.

I was pretty ignorant as to what it was, and entailed tho. When people would say "careful how you lift, you could get a hernia" I listened, but I never had the proper respect and fear for a hernia that I should have. Looking back, if I had known, I would not have done half the things I have that risked a hernia.

Well, ladies and gents, now I have a hernia. I don't know how I got it exactly. Stress maybe, or it just happened gradually over time, or maybe overzealous sexual activity. Who knows. I cant pinpoint exactly when I got it, I just woke up one morning with it. Seriously. And its gotten progressively worse.

Men, we've all been kicked in the berries. We said something stupid to a girl when we were kids, or were winning a fight and some wimp kicked us, or just by accident got hit by a baseball or something. You know that feeling, when your parts swell up, thats the external pain, and then the internal gut feeling that comes with it? That stabbing stomach pain? Ok, imagine that all day long.

When I wake up in the morning, its usually because I look at the alarm clock and say "screw it, I'll get up". I've actually been half asleep most of the night. You try sleeping after getting kicked in the berries. Not easy. I get up, and for 4-5 hours, I have that swelling pain, the gut ache, etc, and by the mid day, for some reason it subsides into a nagging pain, mabye a 4 on that stupid pain scale. I have no idea why it gets better, but it does. This is how it goes for a while.

Then I eat something. Lately its been things that are soft and easy to digest, but it only lessens the pain that will come around an hour later. Then it's back to the just got kicked feeling again. It wears off a bit then I go to bed, usually dead tired from half-sleeping the night before and it starts all over again.

Then about 2-3am, I feel like some wiry feild goal kicker just kicked my stuff instead of a football. I really need to get surgery. I dont wanna brag, but I have a high tolerance for pain. I am one of those people who goes to an ER only when I think I may bleed to death and need stitches, or have bones sticking out. Other than that, I will deal with the pain till it goes away. I recently changed jobs, which means I dont have insurance, so I am going to try to ride this out till October, but I know I wont make it. If this tear gets any bigger I am stuck with going in.

Guys, when someone says, "watch out, you may get a hernia" LISTEN TO THEM. Listen like its tommorows lottery numbers because this hurts like you wouldnt believe. Nobody talks about this stuff enough. Avoid it like the plague. Thats all.

Did you have health ins at your previous job? How about getting COBRA, get the operation and then drop it again if you want. You can get COBRA for (I think) up to 90 days after you've left the job. Can you wear any kind of support in the meantime to make it feel better? Good luck.

Sounds extremely unpleasant. Thanks for the warning...I guess?

yeah, I am looking in to something like that right now. I actually could pony up the dough for the operation and pay cash if I really wanted to, but its ridiculous really. I will probably try to find a way to save a few thousand dollars if I can.

A hernia really doesn't fix itself does it? Usually a hernia is when you tear that lining that holds in your small intestines right? And they kinda drop down twords your bladder?

I'd assume letting that go too long would have some serious health repercussions.

Ahh yea i feel your pain, i've had something worse :X, im not going to say what it was here, it's nothing gross, but ya know, them mods :D.

Anyway i feel ya, and when i had my surgery i was out for the count for about 1-2weeks, sure i could move around a bit, but it REALLY messes ya up after surgery. When they say you'll be fine in 2-4days they mean thats when u'll be able to get out of bed! lol!

Anyway see a doctor ASAP, im not sure if having a hernia long term can be serious, but the pain itself can probably screw you up.

I had a hernia about 10 years ago. I suffered no pain but had a noticeable bump above my right nad.

How it happened- I received a knee to the upper groin area during a basketball game. The Doctor said it was a hernia. I had it repaired and the pain came the moment I awoke from surgery. Really intense, this really f*cking hurts, pain.

You?ll see.

I thought I had a hernia two years ago but I was wrong. However, I did a lot of reading up and a hernia is NOTsomething you want to ignore. Get it fixed, via surgery, and let yourself rest and heal. Sorry you had to go through it... that really sucks. :(

Ouch, my father never emphasized how much it hurt, nor kidney stones, but from the data I gather, I figure I'm in for it. I try to take it easy and drink raspberry juice to avoid these, but ya never know... So I was reading about hernias and there are different ways of repairing them. Some can actually cause more damage or in the least keep you from being as active as pre-hernia days. The best to have is with a mesh that doesn't go above or below like a patch, but in between the tear I think. It promotes the muscle to grow around the mesh and it eventually dissolves and flushes out of the system until the muscle grows back together almost good as new. I have no idea how to find good doctors for it, but there's my advice. Right now I'm dealing with POS ingrown toenails, so I feel some pain along with ya :p Good luck.

Yeah, I want to know as well... ( I'm secretly afraid I have a hernia and some how don't know about it.)

How do you get a hernia anyway? Besides taking a shot to the nads?

Oh gosh.

I had one surgery was a piece of cake.

Being stuck in a car when having to hold explosive diarrhea is more painful.
