Memtest86 question

I have tried two versions on memtest, and two different sticks of RAM.

They both stop at test #3. As soon as test #3 starts, Memtest 'freezes', no errors.

Any ideas?

Problem must be one of these right?
CPU, memory bus, memory controller or memory.

You swapped memory so it's likely not that.

Try a single stick in a slot you have not previously used. Still have problems it could be the memory controller or CPU (I would lean towards CPU). If no problems then it's a bad slot/controller.

I have found that sometimes if you have a weak dim you can get stability by slowing it down a little, might be worth playing with?

On my mb with 2 dims I run at about 204mhz ddr
but with 3 dims the mb only supports 166 mhz so the best I can get it to run is 170 mhz ddr.

One of the 3 dimms I have is older and seems to get errors at the higher rate but is completely stable at the lower one.
So am experimenting now which I would rather have 2 at 200 or 3 at 166🙂

May work for you also, I am using centron value 3 @ 512

Might not be memory since you didn't get an error. MEMTEST doesn't work properly on some mobos.

Try MEMTEST86+

Also try DocMemory tester.

I did not know this. Thank you for the tip concerning DocMemory tester.
