memtest86 failed... at stock speed :(

So I was overclocking my E6300 last night and thought I was doing pretty good. Ran SP2004 and it failed pretty quickly. So I dropped memtest86 on the machine and it failed at a certain spot. So I dropped the machine down to standard stock speeds and the memory is failing in the same spot. So I am guessing this is bad memory all around.

It is Corsair XMS DDR2 6400Pro

I have 2 days left to return it to Fry's. Should I try for the same brand / model, or go for something different?

What luck has everyone had with the P5B?

I will probably buy from Fry's again just to be safe with the return.

Check the voltage specs for your memory and then go into your BIOS and make sure that's what it's getting. Sometimes, especially with newer BIOSes, the 'Auto' feature can be buggy. Go ahead and manually lock in the stock voltage (and while you're at it, you may as well do the same for the timings and speed...) and try memtest again.

If that doesn't work, then get your memory replaced.

Yeah make sure the voltage is right. If it still fails after that, try playing around with it. I have to undervolt my RAM by 0.1v to get it to run stable on a DS3. Weird but it works. I was failing memtest at all stock speed and voltage.

The P5B puts the memory voltage to 1.8v and the corsair is rated at 1.9v

Try that and see what happens. If no go thn replace it for something else. I'd shy away from OCZ though.

Do what was mentioned, but also, i'd suggest setting RAM divider to 1:1, as the P5B doesn't seem to like the higher dividers much.
