I originally built this box with 2X1GB of Corsair XMS2 6400 5-5-5-2T, and it was very stable. Then, a great deal on a 2X512MB kit of Kingston ValueRam 6400 (also 5-5-5-2T) came along, and I jumped on it.
At first, it seemed ideal, and I noticed much better times in video editing, but the system started getting unstable, blue screening, shutting down, etc...
I ran Memtest86+, and got errors (memory bus set at 800MHz, auto timings). However, if I left only the Corsair, or only the KVR in, no memtest errors.
I emailed MSI tech support, and they essentially said that mixing ram can cause problems due to different timings. Seemed fishy to me, especially since I used CPU-Z to get the SPD timings of each stick, then set all timings to the slowest of each. But, I went ahead and bought 2 more 1GB sticks of the Corsair, and CPU-Z/NTune both show that not only are they the same model number, but also have the same manufacture week.
Anyway, I'm still getting memtest errors. I went back to add more to the MSI support ticket, but it's down right now. So I thought I'd try to get some thoughts here.
Here's what I'm running: MSI P6N-SLI FI, C2D E6400 @ 2800MHz, 4X1GB Corsair XMS26400 @ 800MHz, WinXP Pro SP2.
All Win updates installed, MB Bios is the most current (2.30)
I haven't tried each individual stick yet - just don't have that kind of time. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.
