Memtest86, ABIT NF7-S V2 vs. ASUS A7V880:

Saga

Banned
I was testing two pairs of 1GB ValueSelect by Corsair on two systems and came across a few questions I would like to see if I can get answered.

The setups:

ABIT NF7-S V2
3200+ XP Barton (400mhz FSB)
Corsair ValueSelect PC3200 (2x512)

vs.

ASUS A7V880
3000+ XP Barton (333mhz FSB - Dual Channel)

ABIT NF7-S V2
3200+ XP Barton (400mhz FSB)
Corsair ValueSelect PC3200 (2x512 - Dual Channel)

When I run memtest it displays the nForce2 chipset for the ABIT board properly, and displays the memory as 1440mb/s.

However, the ASUS board displays no chipset information for the VIA 880 chipset and displays the memory at 844mb/s when I set the membory to 400mhz, and 1044mb/s when I bump the memory down to 333mhz.

This has me a little perplexed, but I'm not really sure what may be causing this. This board is brand new from ASUS, I RMA'd the first one and they sent me the same board but it was a later revision revision (had a funky sliding tab ont he AGP slot instead of the usual one).

Suggestions on how I can get the RAM on the ASUS board to run the same speed as the ABIT one?

I am not a Memtest expert by any means. Did you download memtest from here?

The app is kept more up to date at this site and is more likely to correctly recognize chipsets. To me, this has got to be a good thing.

Perhaps I'm not understanding you correctly. But since the ASUS mobo has a 3000+ (most likely) with a FSB of 166/333 you don't want the ram to run any speed but 333mhz.

You wanna keep the ram and cpu insynch (same "speed") on this platform for the best performance.
