Just wondering, what happens (or should I expect to happen) if I let memtest run overnight.

Should it still be running in the morning, or does it 'finish' at some point.
 
Be sure to turn off all screensavers and monitor "power save" modes. You can manually shut off the monitor instead.
 
That's what I thought.

I don't think the windows power settings should make a difference because it is boot'ing from the CD and Windows is not loaded. (but I had the monitor off anyway)

I started memtest last night at about 1:30am and by 8am I just had a screen full of yellow DOS 'BLOCKS'.

I've run memtest though 4 passes with no errors, but I've been having stability problems with the pc.
 
The screen full of yellow blocks sounds bad, I've never seen that before. They only thing that should happen is the number of passes goes up. And if there are any errors, red lines appear in the bottom half with error numbers.
