memtest won't copy onto floppy...need help

I have to ask:
Have you recently unplugged the floppy drive cable? If so, did you plug the cable back in correctly? Floppy cables have to go one way.
Also, does it (A: floppy) show up in device manager as working properly?

If you have Nero, it can convert a floppy .img to a .iso and burn it to a CD. Also, shouldn't memtest have a CD version (haven't looked at it for a while so I wouldn't know. Floppy Drive going out is a possibility. My 7 year old Gateway drive died soon after putting it in a new rig.

yes the cables are plugged in properly and device manager says it is running fine...

i have nero but i dont have any blank cd's...so i have to put memtest onto a floppy and boot it from that. i am doing exactly what it says to do in the readme for memtest...and i keep getting those two error messages...and like i said if i try to copy a document from word or notepad my fdd just freezes and stops responding, i dunno what is going on.

thanks for the help though, any more would be appreciated.

Is the write protect on? I've done that.

Try another floppy.

If you already have a boot disk, boot from it and type in the location of the memtest program to run it from the hard drive. Example ... c:\test\memtest.exe
