since i was getting a windows protection error ive been running memtest on my comp for over 20 hours... wtf is this thing gonna finish? also, if it was a prob with my mem how come i can get into safe mode and not into reg windows?

Yes, it continuously loops until you stop it.

This is what MemTest86's web site says about the number of passes
Memtest86 continues executes indefinitely. The pass counter increments each time that all of the selected tests have been run. Generally a single pass is sufficient to catch all but the most obscure errors. However, for complete confidence when intermittent errors are suspected testing for a longer period is advised.
